Update 12

I have not update Mom’s doctors in awhile so let me do that.

Orthopedic Surgeon: Dr. Monroe

Mom does not see this Doctor, but as needed.  She is walking with a cane now.

Dermatologist: Dr. Blair Clementson

It has been almost a year since the golf ball size tumor was remove from her forehead.  Dr. Clementson is pleased that there is no sign of it’s return.  Mom has an appointment in July and if the tumor has not return and the area where the tumor was still looks good this will be her last time she will need to see the dermatologist,. unless there is a sign of skin cancer again.

Eye Doctor: Dr. Todd Gwin

As long as Mom uses her eye drops to keep her eye pressures down the chances of her going blind are low.  She see Dr. Gwin every three months.

General Practitioner: Dr. Michael Edwards

Well here we go with another new doctor.  Mom has had a problem with her blood being thick since before Thanksgiving.  The problem is that she like greens.  I don’t care what kind of greens it is she likes them (collared, turnip, etc.).  Her blood work came back ok this time.  Her insulin has been reduced to 12 units of a morning and 15 units at night. It was 15 units morning and 22 units at night.

Kidney Doctor: Dr. Matt Lambert

Mom’s medications are causing problems with her kidneys, so the doctors are changing some of her medications or they are reducing the amount taken.  The problem is that Mom thinks this is being done because the doctors she has had were over medicating her.  I have not yet got her to understand that she is not being over medicated, but she is in the early stages of kidney failure.

Cardiologist: Dr. Ritesh (Jay) Shah

Mom saw Dr. Reardon last fall an he said nothing about a heart problem, other that the congestive heart failure that she has had for twenty years.  She sees Dr. Edwards for the first time and he ask if she had been told that she has a heart murmur.  The upper left heart value is not opening all the way.  Dr. Shah says that he wants to way till it gets worse before he replaces it.

Cancer Update

Took Mom to the cancer doctor this week. Listened to what he had to said and I am not going to put mom through what he is talking about at this time. He is wanting to cut a big gap in the upper left side of her head. After he is thought, she would need to go to a plastic surgeon to fix the damage done by the cancer doctor. There is only a 50/50 chance that it will return, so I am going to what and see what happens. If it comes back we will have it removed again.

Tumor

If you have seen mom recently you know she had a golf ball on the upper left side of her forehead. It was removed yesterday. It was a Granular Foam Tumor. Dr. Blair said that these are so rare that this was only the third one that she had ever seen. I watched her operate on mom. When she cut into it, foam (looked like sea foam at the ocean) came out of it. It was deep and took Dr. Blair about an hour to cut it out. Mom now has a sore head. She goes back in two weeks to get the stitches out.

Mom's Eye Check-up

Mom went to the eye doctor and her pressures are down to 13 in the right eye and 12 in the left eye. This is within the target the doctor set for her eye pressures, so she is doing good. She just needs to keep using her eye drops.

Update Mom

Mom is sick. She has a cold. She has had it since March 15. Debra and Mary had a birthday party for her at Ryan’s at West Gate on Saturday March 14 and we did not get back till late. The night air must not have been good for her. She woke up Sunday morning with a cold. I tried to get her to go to the doctor, but she would not. She had a check-up appointment Wednesday April 6 and Dr. Readon gave her some medication for the cold. She is now paying a price for not going sooner.

Her check-up went well. She does not have to go back to the Doctor until October. She still has to have the finger poke every month.

She does not understand why she does not need to go back till October. When I moved in with her, she was getting her finger poke every three weeks and going to the doctor every three months. She just can not understand that she is doing better.

Here is a heads up. I know that it is way early, but if you knew Debra and Mary you will understand. I will give you as much time as I can, but with these girls I don’t know how much that will be. For this birthday party I knew just one day in advance. Mom turns 85 on March 13, 2017 and I would like for as many as possible to come.

Update Mom

Dr. Weaver has left Piedmont Medical and started his own practice. Mom choose to stay at Piedmont Medical, so she has a new Doctor, Terry Readon. Seem like a nice guy. Nothing has changed.

She also went to Dr. Gwinn and her eye pressures are down from 16 to 13. Dr. Gwinn was well pleased.

Update Mom

I told you that I was going to update you for each doctor this time, but we have been waiting on lab results. Dr. Weaver sent Mom to the lab for some test. It took two weeks to get into the lab and a week for the results to come back. Everything is fine. There was no changes.

She saw Dr. Gwinn on Monday (April 7). Her eye pressures were down. This is what we been waiting for. Remember the two small holes that he put in each eye to relief pressure. They are working. Her pressures are down to 16. Pressures are a problem once they go above 20. As long as she uses her eye drops everyday, she should not have any problems for awhile.

She hurt her back again. She is wearing her back brace and taking an over-the-counter pain reliever. She will be fine in a day or two. This is going to happen every now and then. Dr. Monroe will not operate on her back because of her age and medical conditions. He is afraid that he will kill her, because of the length of time she would have to be under.

Mom has been sick

Let me tell you what Mom done. We were in the grocery store last Wednesday. I asked one of the female workers why she was wearing a freeze coat and gloves. She said that she was sick and she was freezing to death. Mom has never spoken to this woman, ever. The next thing I know Mom is in her facing talking to her. I tried to get Mom away from her, but Mom was going to have none of that. The Store Manager seen that I was trying to get Mom away from her and she went got the woman by the arm and said come with me. Mom cut the woman off and would not let her go with her boss. It took both of us to get Mom away from the woman. The Store Manage (which is a female) come back to me and want to know what was going on. I told I did not know, but Mom did not need to be around the sick woman. Mom worked her way back to the woman twice before I could get Mom out of the store. By Thursday afternoon Mom and I both were sick. Mom did not go to Church Sunday. She is barking like a dog, but she told me this morning that is has never been sick a day in her life, that everyone around her is sickly, but she never gets sick and the reason she did not go to Church was so she could stay home and take care of me. She got up Sunday morning eat some breakfast and went back to bed.

This is not the first time she has done something like this.

Oh, Update. Debra bought a house over in Cowpens. She will have to come by the house to go to Church. This is a good thing, because Mom has not been wanting to go to Church and her excuse has been that it is out of Debra’s way and that she does not want to bother Debra. Debra is moving in the last of March, so there goes that excuse.

I will tell you this Mom is beginning to lose some of her mental capabilities. I don’t turn my back on her when we are out, because she just may walk away. She has her good days and her bad days. She has never tried to walk away from the house (guess I better put yet in here). The reason is that I thing it is her comfort zone. To show you how bad this can be at times listen to this. Back last fall Mom when off on a young new cashier at the grocery store. Mom was yelling at the top of her voice that the young lady was stealing from her (Mom still likes to pay for her groceries at Aldi’s and she pays cash. Because Aldi’s does not take checks or credit cards. They take cash and debt cards only.). Now let me get back to this story. I get Mom away from this young new cashier and start trying to explain to her that the young lady was not stealing from her. Then she goes off on me and starts telling me that I am letting everybody take her money. I had to put Mom’s hands on the grocery cart handle and push her out of the store. I got Mom in the car and locked her in. When she gets like this she can not unlock the doors, so I can lock her in the car. I was put the groceries in the bags when the Store Manager (the female store manager) came out to check on Mom. We are in this store most every week, so she sees how Mom is. She knows more about how Mom is that my Sisters.

The girls don’t want to admit how bad off Mom is, especially Debra. Debra told me that we were not going to have to worry about Mom dying for at least ten years and that Mom would out live her. I told her that she better hurry up and dye, because Mom may not may it to her Birthday. These girls are not living in Mom’s world, nor do they seem to want to see what is happening.  Now I don’t think Mom will dye any time soon, but I don’t know that.
